Biking to Outside Lands in 2026

The end of the BayWheels bike station with the festival entrance in the background. Hands down the best way to get to Outside Lands 2026 is by bicycle.

As usual, biking to Outside Lands is the best way to get to this fantastic festival in Golden Gate Park. No worries about traffic, bus crowds, lack of parking, expensive rideshare, or anything else. Riding a bicycle is the way to go. The Outside Lands 2026 website only has one little blurb about bicycles on their Info page, which leaves more to be desired.

But fear not, I am here now to share all the secrets about how to bike to Outside Lands in 2026. Much has changed since biking to Outside Lands in 2019 in the pre-pandemic days when there was a free bike valet and cars on JFK street every day except Sunday (could you even imagine??). Also we now have sea serpents.

The Naga sea serpent has been swimming around on JFK drive just across from the self-park area and the Lyft Bike (aka Bay Wheels) pop-up dock.

Ride a Lyft Bike (aka Bay Wheels) to Outside Lands 2026

The Lyft Bike pop up station will probably look something like this where you’ll hand the bike directly to the people at the station and can pick them up here too. Notice the festival entrance in the background.

This is likely the most convenient way to get to Outside Lands this year. They have not one but TWO Lyft Bike bikeshare valet stations. This is great news, since previously it was just the JFK north entrance. Now there’s also a Lyft Bike valet at the south entrance. See the map below since it’s at the same place as the bicycle self-park area.

With their Lyft Bike valet station, you’ll have an easy place to drop off a Bay Wheels bike, and they’ll probably have plenty at the end of the night. Not having to worry about security and bike lights makes biking a breeze, so if you aren’t already prepared with your own bike, hop on a Lyft Bike! Use my Lyft Bike referral link if you haven’t already ridden. Just an FYI the e-bikes can cost more than you expect if you don’t have a membership πŸ’Έ so I’d recommend getting a membership if you don’t have one already!

FYI Lyft is a sponsor of the Outside Lands festival. Back in 2019 it was Uber & JUMP bikes.

Bike Parking: Self-Park Only

The OutsideLands 2026 map with bike parking self-park circled. There are Lyft Bike (BayWheels) valet stations at both public entrances this year.

Anywhere you’d want to enter there will be bike racks. They have letters on them too so you can find your bike at the end of the show. Previously there was a bike valet every year right near the entrance to Outside Lands. Now there’s only self-park racks and a Lyft Bike bikeshare valet station. There’s also a self-park area near the VIP entrance south of Spreckel’s lake, so anywhere you want to enter there will be bike racks.

As you ride your bike west on car-free JFK you’ll start to see rows of barricade fences that are used to self-park bicycles. Bring a secure lock (or even an angle grinder resistant one) and lock your components as well!

The Outside Lands 2026 website has a small blurb about bicycles which is a little confusing because it says nothing of the VIP entrance parking and talks about one of the Lyft Bike valets at the “north entrance” (which I’d call it the east entrance), but here’s the full text:

Outside Lands will offer free self-park bicycle parking areas located at the eastern and southern portions of the festival site. Bike parking is available during festival hours.

Need a ride to Outside Lands? Bay Wheels has you covered with a special Bay Wheels station on JFK Drive, just east of Transverse Drive – right near the festival’s North Entrance. [Second location on MLK Dr, east of the South Entrance] On-site valets will make sure there’s an open dock for you to park when you roll up to the festival, and a bike when you’re ready to head home.

This is what the self-park racks will look like at the south and east entrances to the festival (this photo is from the racks at the Grateful Dead concert on a different nearby street in Golden Gate Park). Also I’m with Jessie and her bicycle that was stolen and recovered!

The SFMTA website also has this information.

Bottom line: if you’re bringing your own bicycle to OSL this year, bring a lock (even an angle grinder resistant one) and other security tools and be prepared to use them!

Ride Through Beautiful Golden Gate Park

I love making a bike ride out of any Golden Gate Park destination (especially with my chill Public C7 bike). It’s such a treat to ride through that park with our people first JFK street full of art, people, and community. Here’s the classic ride through the Wiggle, Panhandle, and car-free JFK that takes you all the way to the self-park bike parking and the Lyft Bike (BayWheels) bikeshare bike valet.

Road Closures and Bike Route Detours

Deep in the bowels of the Outside Lands website, found only by tapping “Neighborhood 311” on the bottom bar, you’ll find some extra transportation information including the detour map for Outside Lands 2026.

If you ride a bicycle through the park usually, you’ll see the classic car-free route all the way to Ocean Beach is a bit modified during the construction of the event, and completely closed during the event. Here’s a copy of that map.

Don’t Forget Your Bike Lights!

If you’re riding home after the last act, it’s gonna be dark for sure. Bikeshare bikes and some rentals have built in lights, but otherwise you should grab some on your way to the festival or before you go.

I prefer to use locking bike lights so I never have to take them off, but if you don’t have any yet and you’re just looking for an easy option, here are some nice ones, these are my backup easy to carry lights (or extra cheap ones you can give to your friends!).

A front light hack is to just use a headlamp that’s useful for other uses too! You may already have one! There are ultra cheap ones these days or go for the popular brand name one. But make sure you have a rear bike light too.

All the bike shops should be open on your ride there, so if it’s last minute just stop in at one of them to pick up some lights.

Have fun! If you decide this bike commute was great and want to do it again, be sure to check out some of my other posts like how I recovered a stolen bikesupporting better infrastructure in SF,  securing your bike (with new safer angle grinder resistant locks), how to avoid cars in the bike lane, and other tips.

Happy Biking!
